Yes. There are an increasing number of people who are choosing to fund their own treatment. A quotation is available on request for many of the commonly performed hip and knee procedures that will cover the hospital, anaesthetic and surgical fees. Please contact us if you require a quotation for consultation or treatment costs.
Majority of insurers will require a GP or physiotherapist referral letter before authorising a consultation, investigations or any treatment. If you are paying for your own treatment, then a referral is not necessary although in general it is preferred.
At the first consultation, your surgeon will ask you about the details of your presenting problem and the impact it is having on your life. The affected joint will then be examined and you may be sent for an x-ray. Based on the above information, your surgeon will discuss with you the most likely cause of your problem and offer potential treatment options. Occasionally, other investigations such as an ultrasound, MRI or CT scan maybe needed first before a decision on your treatment can be made. This is usually arranged within one or two weeks.
We will organise a convenient time for you to have your surgery. Every operative procedure has a code that insurers and hospitals use. If you are using your medical insurance policy, you are advised to obtain an authorisation number prior to proceeding with surgery.
